Villa Le Camelie

Tuscany, Italy

  • From €2,000/night
  • Villa
  • 8 Bedrooms
  • 7 Bathrooms
  • Sleeps 16 + 1

Located on the ancient Via Francigena, just a few kilometres from the medieval town of Lucca, one of the finest jewels of Tuscany, Villa Le Camelie is a 15th century villa set in 100 acres of woodland and olive groves. The formal Italian garden boasts over a thousand white roses combined with an abundance of bougainvillea, colourful hydrangeas and scented camellias.

The charming historical town of Lucca, well known for its impressive surrounding walls built during the Renaissance, is a feast of churches and towers, antique markets and old book shops, Medieval and Renaissance architecture and Romanesque churches.

Once a hunting lodge for the Orsetti family and frequently used during the summer to escape the heat and humidity of the town, Villa Le Camelie has been refurbished to the highest standard yet conserving its architectural heritage.

The 53-foot long swimming pool is located on the high end of the garden, surrounded by lush vegetation and featuring a Balinese massage pavilion and a fully equipped summer kitchen, all benefitting from incredible views across the Lucca valley.

Amidst the noble villa and the adjoining “casa colonica” (annex) is a furnished courtyard, perfect to enjoy breakfast in the mornings or dinner al fresco. The perfect place to enjoy a glass of

delicious local red wine or a crispy pizza baked in the villa’s wood fired oven.

Interiors of the main villa are contemporary in style and the bedrooms extremely spacious.

The main villa houses four en-suite bedrooms and one with separate outside bathroom. Of the four en-suite rooms three are king size double and one is twin with single beds that can be converted into a double. The room with the separate bathroom offers two queen size double beds and thus is a generous twin.

Special touches include a hidden door behind bookshelves opening into a private spa room with hammam, treadmill and massage corner.

In contrast, the farmhouse has colourful walls, terracotta floors and a more country feeling. Three bedrooms can be found here; one king size and one twin (that can also be a double), which share a bathroom and another twin that can also be a double but has en-suite bathroom. An office with a daybed can also be used for another child.

With a total of eight bedrooms, all air-conditioned, the villa can comfortably accommodate a total of 16 guests.

A cook or chef is available on request and the house’s garden is a perfect place to host a party or wedding also.

Region

Luxury holidays in Tuscany are flourishing thanks to the many charms this beautiful region boasts. Even the most discerning of travellers will find their perfect holiday rental in Tuscany. The variety of property on offer includes apartments, farmhouses, luxury villas, mansions and other unique properties.

For many travellers to Italy, Tuscany rules supreme over all the other regions of the country. Her artistic wealth is so rich that one is left in awe at the endless roll call of the great names of artists who have worked there and of the cities and villages that contain their works. Her bucolic countryside of rolling hills clad with vines and woodlands creates a world of rural harmony from which one half expects figures from the quattrocento paintings to walk out. Her cuisine delights with its variety drawn from the land and the sea (Tuscany has a long coastline), from its hot summers and harsh, cold winters, all washed down with local wines.

These iconic images give Tuscany a timeless familiarity about it, but of course Tuscany is far more complex than just being a countryside of well known rural views and treasure trove towns. For there is another Tuscany to discover, more secretive, more isolated, a verdant idyll, tucked away in small hidden valleys below steep wooded hills, or sheltered from the elements on the sweeping, almost lunar landscape of the Crete Senese plains in the south.  The two Tuscany's, known and unknown, live side by side.

For every Florence, Siena or Arezzo, overwhelmed by tourism (and with good reason), there is a small village down a country lane where, the insides of a church have been adorned by a master, or a palazzo opens its doors to the public to reveal its glorious rooms.

Tuscany has become the go to region for luxury holidays in Italy and here at Rocksure Travel we have an amazing collection of opulent accommodation on offer.  We have apartments, farmhouses and luxury villas in Tuscany all set in fabulous locations.  Our most popular luxury villas in Tuscany include the amazing Villa Scintilla, a luxury mansion in the undiscovered Maremma area. There is the beautiful Villa Natale with its open living areas, pool and wonderful countryside views.  And the incredible 15th century Tuscan villa, Villa Le Camelie which is set in 100 acres of olive groves and woodland. It sleeps up to 16 and is popular for special family holidays and group trips.

Local Area

Nestled on the road which leads to the Abetone mountains, the small village of Pieve di Compito is known all over Tuscany for the camellias festival. Taking place every year in March and April, this much awaited event includes a tour of the historic gardens in which rare species of camellia grow. Not to be missed, the walk along the Sentiero delle Camelie: a two hour stroll designed to introduce visitors to some of the most beautiful varieties of the flower, preserved skillfully by expert and passionate owners and gardeners.

In the area, you’ll also find the only tea plantation in Italy, maintained expertly by an agronomist who helped make the leaves resistant even to the cold Lucchesia winters!

Pieve di Compito offers a couple of small restaurants and a supermarket, but for a much larger variety and to properly immerse yourself into the local wine and gastronomy culture, 12 kms away is the charming town of Lucca, where you can hire a bike and soar high above Lucca atop the walls, which are beautifully shaded with leafy plane trees.

Once you have completed your tour of Lucca's most famous promenade, take a short ride through the medieval heart of the town, which is full of lovely antique shops, spectacular churches - there are 99 in total - and authentic trattorias where you can experience delicious, traditional local cuisine.

The climate in Tuscany is generally mild with differences depending on the geography of each area. The coast and valleys tend to have hotter summers than the hills or mountains although the coast benefits from breezes off the sea for cooler temperatures even in those warmer months.
The hottest and driest month is July, this is the best time to visit if you wish to lay by the pool or beach. The best time to visit for sightseeing is April to June or September and October, as this is when the sun is less gruelling but the heat is pleasant.
