Marrakech

The oasis of Marrakech lies in the south of the kingdom of Morocco and certainly lives up to its reputation of being a colourful and exotic city. You will find yourself enchanted with its distinct heritage, visible in the swirling stucco and the carved-wood architecture - the city's strong theme of ancient artistry mixed with the upcoming contemporary arts and design scene.  Increasingly, Marrakech is associated with its trendy nightlife, new restaurants and, most recently, its tribute to a giant of fashion, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum.

Unsurprisingly, the souks are the sensory highlights of this city - the noise of people selling their beautifully handcrafted wares, the heady smell of the plethoric brightly-coloured spices emanating from all corners, the abundance of colour everywhere you turn - expect adrenaline to run wild as you haggle your way into owning the treasures that will forever remind you of your time here.

Diverse, ancient, colourful and contemporary, Marrakech is the tale of a great many cities, and it does not take long for visitors here to become entranced with its bountiful offering.

Visitors opposed to extreme heat are advised to travel when temperatures have cooled in March, April and May. There isn't much rainfall throughout the year so tourists should not be concerned about surprise downpours.
