Rocksure Masters introduces a wonderful way to combine amazing sightseeing with developing your knowledge and skills in a region. As humans we love to learn how other cultures have been developed. Many of us thrive on learning new things and what better way than to travel whilst becoming enlightened with the many ways of life.
One of travel's greatest pleasures is seeing how other societies live, whether in a religious, traditional or even gastronomical way - played out in their natural habitats. With the help of a knowledgeable guide and philosopher, Rocksure Masters invite you to be enlightened and educated - all the while in glorious locations.
The Rocksure Club is very fortunate to be able to offer Members a series of short stays in delicious corners of Europe, hosted by Anthony Bay as 'Guide, Philosopher and Friend'.
Anthony is extraordinarily knowledgeable about the history and culture of Europe and has been lauded by Conde Nast Traveller on several occasions as one of their International Specialists. A few days in his company is a unique and memorable experience.
Our programmes cover all aspects of culture - from historic monuments, fashionable city gems with architectural wonders to smaller towns and villages oozing with heritage or far-away lands steeped in ancient history.
The D-Day Landings in Normandy on 6th June 1944 can be regarded as one of the greatest military campaigns of all time as well as one of the best acts of deception in history. The complexities of organising the Armada in incredible secrecy, the challenges and ferocity of the assault on “Hitler’s ‘Fortress Europe’, are truly the stuff of heroes which deserve to be understood by today’s generations.
You will see the beaches - Sword, Juno, Gold & Omaha - where troops landed and attacked with soul and bravery; the remains of the floating Mulberry harbours; the seemingly impregnable Pointe du Hoc; and the St Laurent cemetery where 9,387 headstones bear testimony to the sacrifices made for our freedom. This poignant day can be combined with other visits in Giverny, Honfleur, Bayeux, Rowen for example - make a 2 or 3 day excursion and spend a night at a 1,000 year old Chateau hotel.
Provence was the first region in norther Europe to be colonised by the Romans (hence its name “Provincia”) and was of major geopolitical importance due to its position leading to northern Europe and to Spain. It was also a popular place of retirement for wealthy Romans. This has left a rich legacy of Roman remains to be seen during these three days.
You will see the great 1st century AD amphitheatres of Arles and Nimes; the Maison Carrée, perhaps the best-preserved Roman temple in Europe; the extraordinary aqueduct of the Pont du Gard; and the great theatre wall and statue of Augustus and Triumphal Arch in the town of Orange.
The Roman civilization in Provence two thousand years ago is an enriching and well-illustrated story which will be brought colourfully to life for you during those three days.
There is something deliciously perverse about taking two leisurely days to complete a journey which can take just a few hours by direct means, but that is what we are offering you now.
From Vienna, you will be driven into the valley of the River Danube when you pause at the riverside village of Durnstein. Board a river boat for a cruise through lovely scenery and past pretty villages to see the huge Benedictine abbey of Melk. Continue your journey through the idyllic countryside of the Czech Republic, staying overnight in the picturesque riverside town of Cesky Krumlov, the entire old town of which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, then continue next day to Prague.
If you’re lucky you might be able to stay in at least one of the spectacular Rocksure apartments in Vienna and Prague.
We know short trips are precious - so we have devised packages that combine culture soaked programmes with quick hops on privately chartered light jets.
Imagine the convenience of getting picked up from home, driven to the airport, straight on to the runway, board your jet and off you go… on arrival you will meet Anthony at the other end - the ultimate hop on/hop off experience.
