Austria

There is something very special and dear to us about Austria. We can't quite put our finger on what exactly it is about this bewildering country that keeps us coming back for more, but we believe our properties and itineraries certainly help in showcasing this stunning country.

In the heart of Europe, despite being bordered by no less than 8 countries, Austria maintains a strong identity. Famed for her impressive musical, theatrical and educational 'exports' from her Imperial Cities of Vienna and Salzburg, it's also her varied landscapes that captures the hearts of her visitors. From the plethora of ski resorts in the West such as Lech and St Anton to the unbelievably stunning lakes of Hallstadt, Kitzbuhel and Zell am See over to the East, there is so much on offer on this small and intimate country.

But we think the real magnet lies in the service. It's no more evident than from the moment you enter the hotels and restaurants and you are greeted by the warmest of welcomes. And behind this warm welcome is the heart of the family - this hotel or that restaurant has been passed down the family generations. There is an overwhelming sense of pride and respect for the hospitality industry in Austria. It really is aspirational. You arrive as their guest. But you definitely leave as their friend!

Albrecht Dürer exhibition in Vienna

Price on request
Vienna

3rd - 6th January 2020
The elegant and spacious two bedroom Vienna apartment is situated on the first (noble) floor of a former palace.  It lies on a quiet street in a central location near the famous shopping area of Mariahilfer Strasse. Close by you will find the Albertina which houses the most valuable graphical collections in the world, with works such as Dürer’s “Hare” and Klimt's studies of women. The works by Albrecht Dürer at the Albertina Museum are of particular interest in terms of the collection’s history; their provenance can be traced back to the year of the artist’s death in an unbroken line.

  • Vienna was an Imperial capital for a thousand years and this is symbolised by the huge Imperial Palace of the Hofburg
  • Here you can enjoy our 2 bedroom apartment whilst visiting the Albertina
  • This exhibition focuses on his drawings and watercolours
  • The 1502 Young Hare was last exhibited in 2014

Ski the White Ring Circuit full day

Lech & Zürs

Spend the day skiing the 22 kms White Ring, which is a spectacular panoramic trip amidst impressive Austrian Alpine peaks. Created according to the vision of the Vorarlberg pioneer Sepp Bildstein about 60 years ago, the ski circuit is now one of the most beautiful and impressive ski runs in the Alps. From the top of Rüfikopf peak at an altitude of 2,131m, the White Ring runs between jagged boulders before the seemingly infinite majestic mountains appear before you in the distance.

Stop for a light lunch at Balmalp, which is a modern chalet building located conveniently at the top of the Zug ski lift and serves good food, such as charcuterie boards, local cheeses and freshly made pizzas.

After a hard day’s skiing head to the Aurelio, which is an iconic hotel in the centre of Lech and offers gourmet dining in simple yet very elegant interiors with a relaxed atmosphere. The cuisine here really is out of this world, not only in taste but also in its stunning presentation.

Champagne ski boots and horse drawn sleigh for dinner

Lech & Zürs

Strolz is world renowned for its handmade ski boots - they are custom made by craftsmen and it is said that once you have a pair of Strolz boots, you are a customer for life as they are made with orthopaedic expertise and precision to suit your individual feet. Now in the 3rd generation, it is still a family business and in addition to ski boots and handmade skis, there are 6 floors of ski equipment, ski wear and fashion to tempt you. Sip a glass of champagne at their bar in-store whilst your boots are being made, or alternatively they will deliver them to your hotel. The service is impeccable!

Early evening take a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh where you can see the charming village of Lech and stunning countryside, ride along snow covered country pathways to the romantic church in Zug and onto Kristiania Lech. Sip an elegant craft cocktail in the Rote Bar before dinner at the Kristian Restaurant which is a relaxed and easy-going, friendly restaurant and serves traditional Austrian dishes fused with contemporary lounge music. We recommend their surprise tasting menu, where the chefs put all their skill and craftsmanship into creating a truly gourmet experience with inspired cuisine.
