Kafue National Park

With 22,000 square kilometres of vastly different scenery, Kafue National Park is the largest and oldest reserve in Zambia, yet is little known to average tourist or traveller, making it the perfect place for an authentic safari experience to observe more animals than humans!

The best way to experience the whole park and its diverse landscape and wildlife is to take a longer stay and start at the North and work your way South (or vice versa). From rocky hills to woodlands and open grassland to the cascading rapids of the River Kafue, the park has so much to offer. Safari's come with an option of walking, boating, driving, or perhaps all three.

Cape buffalo, defassa waterbuck, lion, red lechwe, sable, leopards, hippo and crocodiles are all on offer to observe in their natural habitat. This National Park is a real treat.

If you don't want scorching temperatures, and would prefer a getaway with no rain, the best months to visit Kafue National Park are the months of May through to September. Daily temperatures average of around 17 degrees centigrade in these months, however it can get rather cold in the mornings and evenings.

If you'd prefer to bask in the heat and don't mind a moderate amount of rainfall, October to March produce the hottest daytime temperatures, although you will probably encounter a thunderstorm and some rain, although these don't last particularly long and can add to the authenticity and experience of your visit. December, January and February are partial to a lot of rain, so do pack accordingly to your selected dates!
