The Newt in Somerset is set within the grounds of Hadspen House and on a working country estate, between the market towns of Bruton and Castle Cary. Celebrating the best of Somerset through hospitality, horticulture and agriculture, it incorporates gardens, cyder, restaurants and the hotel & spa situated in the house and grounds of this Grade II listed Georgian property.
Hadspen House has 13 rooms, which consists of 4 Hadspen Lofts, 1 Hadspen Twin Room, 2 Hadspen Cosy Rooms, 3 Hadspen Rooms and 3 Hadspen Garden View Rooms, with the other 10 rooms being found in the Stable Yard. These include the Granary, 4 Clock House Rooms, 2 Stable Rooms, 2 Stable Lofts, the Hayloft & Woolsack.
The Hotel restaurant, The Botanical, offers a seasonal menu sourced from the Estate. The Bar serves seasonal drinks, including The Newt's own craft cyder. The Garden Cafe serves food all day.
There is also a private dining venue for 12 people in the Horns & Pigtails. There is a croquet lawn and badminton court, plus a spa which has six treatment rooms, an indoor / outdoor swimming pool, a steam room, halotherapy room, Rasul mud chamber, manicure bar, medicinal garden, an authentic hamman, plus a gym with lovely views of one of the vegetable gardens.
The gardens at The Newt are certainly the icing on the cake and you can stroll through the apple tree maze, flowers, native herbs and vegetables, plus enjoy the beautiful views of Somerset. Garden tours take place at 10.30am every morning. After your garden tour, you can have a cyder tour and sample the cyder from the apples which are grown, pressed and bottles on the Estate. There are also two shops, one selling delicious produce and the other selling gorgous gifts.
The West Country covers various counties in the South-West of England, which usually include Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and Somerset, plus Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and The Isles of Scilly. Leafy narrow country roads lead through miles of scrumpy cider apple orchards and buttercup meadows, plus secluded beaches and rolling green countryside.
With lots to see and do in the region visitors have plenty of choice of where to go, there are a number of tourist attractions from historic buildings to miles of unspoilt coastline, world heritage sites and characterful towns and pictueresque villages, not to mention clotted cream teas.
A few highlights include Stonehenge, The Forest of Dean, Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks, Land's End, Lundy, the White Horses of Wiltshire, the Jurassic Coast and the Isles of Scilly.
