Sasaab is in the Westgate Community Conservancy, west of the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District. Overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro river in the heart of Samburu land, Sasaab Lodge is one of the most stylish and luxurious game lodges in Northern Kenya. The lodge commands breathtaking views across the arid landscape towards the jagged peak of Mt. Kenya.
Sasaab has seven individual rooms and one family unit. The lodge can accommodate up to 18 guests. Each room is over 100m² and has magnificent
elevated views. All rooms have private plunge pools and private en-suite open air bathrooms with a double vanity and an undercover, open-sided shower with a view. The design is Moroccan in style - each room is luxurious and boasts expansive views.
An exceptional safari experience is offered with sightings of the ‘Samburu Special Five’ (Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk and Beisa Oryx), as well as interaction with the fiercely proud and colourful Samburu people.
Meru lies strategically on the north-eastern slopes of Mount Kenya, with spectacular views of the mountain and Nyambene Hills, with the Kathita River flowing gently through. The town is a cultural and historical hub, with the Meru Museum being the main attraction, preserving various artefacts of the local people. Meru is the launch-pad for Samburu National Reserve, North Kenya’s most popular park.
The landscape of the reserve is a mixture of acacia, riverine forest, thorn trees and grassland vegetation, providing home to several large mammals such as lions, buffalos and hippos, as well as over 350 bird species.
Samburu's dominant feature is the Ewaso N’giro River, which slices through the middle of the otherwise bone-dry terrain. The river provides water for the parks various inhabitants; large numbers of elephants, giraffes and leopards gather along the riverbanks, whilst crocodiles swim downstream.
The diverse Kenyan landscape set to the backdrop of the Koitogor and Ololokwe mountains is truly magnificent.
