Manda Bay is a family run beach lodge located on Manda island on the Northern Coast of Kenya, which sits on a quiet and beautiful stretch of beach where, at low tide, you can walk for miles around the island across untouched beaches. The white sand, clear turquoise sea and palm trees provide a calming backdrop as well as a picturesque paradise setting.
Manda Bay offers beautiful beach front accommodation, barefoot luxury and informal pampering. All the buildings are in keeping with the local landscape and are constructed using palm and driftwood with local building techniques.
Manda Bay combines a beach and bush experience. Whilst miles of soft white sand and coconut palms surround the lodge itself, the bush behind the lodge is dry country scattered with Doum palms, Acacia Tortilis and savannah-like scrub.
A variety of birds and mammals (mongoose, civet cat, porcupine, genet cat, dik-dik, buffalo and bushbuck) can be seen on the island.
Marine wildlife also thrives as the nearby beach is where hundreds of turtles bury their eggs. If you go snorkelling you will find a very healthy ecosystem under the water and a lovely colourful array of fish and coral.
There are a variety of activities available which include sailing, all day fishing trips, deep fishing, kite surfing, water sports, snorkelling and paddle boarding. There are boat trips in the evening to go and watch the sunset and see the bee-eater birds in their tens of thousands who fly into roost, which is a real highlight. Trips to the culturally diverse and ancient towns of Lamu and Shela are also on offer, as are relaxing massages.
Manda is a member of the Lamu Marine Conservation Trust and supports the Northern Rangelands Trust. Both of these support wildlife projects and communities within the Lamu region.
Manda Bay has something for everyone and is a true hidden paradise in the corner of Kenya, where you can experience a relaxing and peaceful retreat.
The East African coast has a shallow shelf stretching out to a coral reef and at low tide you can explore the rock pools and find various marine life such as shells, eels, crabs, starfish, sea urchins and fish nursery pools. At high tide, the warm sheltered waters are perfect for snorkeling and swimming.
The white sandy beaches of Kenya's beautiful coastline are fringed with palm trees and offer sacred forests, unspoilt bays, exotic coral reefs and stunning white sandy beaches, which all provide an idyllic tropical paradise.
Along the Kenyan Coast, you can explore the ancient heritage of Lamu, go stand-up paddle boarding in the crystal clear waters, watch dolphins swimming along or scuba dive and snorkel amongst colourful coral reefs.
