Little Governors’ Camp is a luxury safari camp located on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve. The camp has 17 luxury ensuite tents dotted around a large watering hole that teems with both birds and wildlife. The camp is approached by a boat ride across the Mara River and an escorted walk through the riverine forest. Vehicles are left on the far river bank, and the camp is therefore quiet and undisturbed.
The guest tents at Little Governors’ have great wooden decks with large verandahs for guests to enjoy the constant game activity that takes place around the camp’s watering hole. A resident family
of warthogs wander freely through the camp and, on occasions, guests have to make way for elephants paying a visit to the camp at lunch time. Little Governors’ has been awarded a Silver Eco-Rating from Eco Tourism Kenya due to the sustainable practices in place in camp.
Activities on offer include day game drives in custom built 4x4 vehicles, guided bush walks, bush meals, sundowners, hot air balloon safaris, massages, visits to the nearby Masai community manyatta and excursions to Lake Victoria for day trips.
Globally famous for its exceptional population of Africa’s finest animals, Masai Mara is undoubtedly the leading National Park in observing the Big Five. Located in Narok County, South-Western Kenya, the reserve covers some 1,500 square kilometres of gently rolling grassland.
Established in 1961 and named in honour of the Masai people (the ancestral inhabitants of the island), the park comprises around a dozen community conservancies, several group ranches and numerous Masai villages, as well as extensive open terrain in which an abundance of wildlife roam freely.
Having recorded 95 species of amphibians, reptiles and mammals, including lions, leopards and cheetahs, along with 400 bird types, one can see why Masai Mara is a popular safari destination. In July, the reserve becomes even more magical, as this is when over 1.5 million animals arrive in the park from the Serengeti, in a movement known as the Great Migration. Herds of zebra, gazelle and wildebeest can be seen frolicking in the Kenyan sun, and is guaranteed to leave you with treasured memories of a quintessential African holiday.
