Region

Kibale Forest is a magnificent national park in Southern Uganda containing an array of both lowland and montane landscapes. The park was formally established in 1993 to protect a large area of evergreen rainforest, and is still an important eco-tourism and safari destination. The park also boasts extreme conservation efforts, with the wild coffee projects and forestry research helping to preserve Mother Nature’s beauty.

Kibale is most famous for its monkey life, having one of the highest diversity and concentration of primates in Africa, with large numbers of endangered chimpanzees as well as the red colobus monkey and the rare L’Hoest’s monkey. This provides exciting opportunities such as chimpanzee trekking and even a Chimpanzee Habituation Experience, where you will be able to learn more about primate behaviour by being with them all day in their natural setting.

If you love animals, Kibale Forest National Park is an unmissable, and unforgettable, experience.

A very narrow annual temperature range is a result of Kibale's proximity to the equator. Inside the park, temperatures are generally higher in the south as this is where the altitude is at its lowest. There's no Dry season but the park does see two Wet seasons (March to May and August to November).

For the easiest trekking, tourists should look to go in either December to February or June and July. This being said, successful treks are still achievable in the wetter months of March to May and August to November.
