Kahanda Kanda is an absolute gem of a boutique hotel offering just 12 beautifully spacious suites, some with private pool. All the suites are unique, with characterful décor and varying outside areas from verandahs to an entire private garden with pool. Thatched roofs, wooden flooring and luxurious 4-poster beds with canopy are featured in all of the rooms. Most rooms can sleep up to three guests and it is worth noting that some rooms have outdoor showers. The top suite, Dubu, is a the most private and perfect for honeymooners or simply romance.

The hotel is not suitable for children under 12 and therefore the atmosphere here is very tranquil. Excellent staff are on hand to look after your every need, with a very non-intrusive and charming service style.

There is an open air restaurant pavilion with the most glorious view over Koggala Lake, however private dining is available throughout, be it in your suite, by the pool or in the garden. The style of cuisine here is contemporary western fusion cuisine with a healthy focus along with classic Sri Lankan curries and Thai cuisine. Set menus change daily and use seasonal produce

as well as estate-grown herbs and vegetables, however the team are very open to customising for any specific needs or wishes.

The heavenly open-sided spa pavilion is nestled amidst the tea bushes and enjoys panoramic views. Treatments include manicures, pedicures and massages.

The hotel is situated just 15 km from Galle Fort, with excellent boutiques and a choice of restaurants. In the area, also less than 30 minutes away there are lovely beaches (and the hotel has a sister property on the beach) and a whole range of activities on offer from canoeing to body boarding and surfing to snorkelling. Cycling is possible directly from the property through a local company and is a superb way of seeing the local countryside through rice paddies and villages. In house, cooking classes, fitness training, yoga and walks amongst the tea bushes are on offer as light activities.

Kahanda Kanda is intended to provide the gentle, relaxed feeling of a country tea estate within arm's reach of everything that the Galle area has to offer.

Region

Tucked away in the southwestern corner of Sri Lanka is Galle Fort, which over the centuries has experienced Dutch, Portuguese and British influences and has played an important role as a trading post. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this small fortified town has been growing in popularity over the past years and is now a very fashionable place to be. Along her cobbled streets, boutique stores rub shoulders with delightful small hotels and somehow the authenticity and atmosphere of the town has been retained despite an increasing number of visitors to the area. A stay within the Fort itself is highly reccommended for at least two nights. Stay longer if you can and there willl certainly be plenty to do in the area from cultural experiences to active options.

Within a short distance from Galle are some glorious accomodation options too, from picturesque properties overlooking lakes or tea plantations to numerous stunning, small and intimate beach retreats. The coastline that heads eastwards is home to some heavenly beaches, where palm-lined shores meet the might of the Indian Ocean. Sea swimming can be tricky in this region as the currents and waves can be strong, however there are some sheltered coves where swimming is fine. There are also some wonderful spots on the west coast too, north of Galle heading towards Colombo including Hikkaduwa, Balapitiya and Bentota, the latter offering a good array of watersports on the lagoon.

Whether you spend your entire time in Sri Lanka in the south west or just a few days, you will most certainly fall in love with the area and never want to leave.
