Sample some of the region's award-winning wine, stroll through exquisitely manicured gardens or explore a variety of shops, art galleries and antique shops in the oak-lined streets of the local towns. You can even go wine tasting on horseback!

Franschhoek is an utterly charming little town with French Huguenot heritage and certainly offers the best restaurants that are home to some of South Africa's top chefs. Historic Stellenbosch is a buzzing university town full of history and Cape Dutch buildings and is surrounded by approximately 200 vineyards.

Paarl lies nestled amongst vineyards laden with the harvest's finest offerings, and further afield are the wine areas of Robertson, Tullbagh, Wellington and Hemel-en-Aarde.

The winter months can experience heavy rains, strong northwesterly winds and low temperatures, but the winter doesn't preclude wine-tasting and many of the indoor venues are warm and cosy during the cold months.
