The Faena Hotel was the first to place the trendy and high rise residential dockside district of Puerto Madero squarely on the map for international visitors.
The hotel is housed in a redeveloped red brick storage mill and has been carefully restored to offer 87 well designed well proportioned rooms that are light with large windows which take in the view of the River Plate or the city skyline. Furnishings throughout are pillar box red laced with gold on crisp white linen. These are the colours throughout the hotel with a definite nod to a very regal theme. Indeed, the outside pool is adorned by a huge crown.
In spite of the Faena's regal tones the atmosphere is not stuffy but informal and inclusive. The Mercado restaurant is abuzz at breakfast with
residents and locals alike and is also open for lunch and dinner.
Bistro Sur is the Faena's fine dining restaurant accompanied by an avenue of unicorn heads, huge crystal chandeliers and white leather furnishings.
If the decor is a step too far there are a good choice of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.
The Faena is further away from the bussle of the immense 9 de Julio Avenue and the tree lined streets of Recoleta but the location compensates by being in an area of open space around the reclaimed city docks and nature reserve, both areas popular with joggers and those in need of an uninterrupted stroll.
The most populous and cosmopolitan city in Argentina - Buenos Aires!
The streets of Buenos Aires are an astounding mix of grandeur with alluring Latin influences and a large dose of vibrancy.
The architecture of the 1908 opera house, the Obelisco de Buenos Aires and 19th-century buildings such as Casa Rosada, the iconic, balconied presidential palace, all radiate charm and offer visitors an insight into Argentina's rich history, ensuring the city maintains a certain seductive essence about it.
The Latin influences in Argentina are strong yet not overwhelming, showcasing themselves in both old and new music and the arts. The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes is perfect for witnessing significant artwork from European masters, ranging from pre-Renaissance days to the here and now. Art is not just confined to the galleries in Buenos Aires - the streets are used as a canvas for many talented and inspiring street artists whose murals proudly enhance the vibrancy and colour of the city.
Whilst the many theatres can allow you to experience the sensation that is Tango by watching the world famous dance, you can also try yourself at a Milonga. Milonga's are dance salons which are dotted throughout the city and allow you to watch and learn amongst beginners and the more advanced, or show off your moves with your own partner.
Buenos Aires is a city full of life and culture, and has a somewhat confidence amongst its stark contrast of old and new - and proudly so.
