Situated in the Bale Mountains National Park, in the Harenna Forest, the location of the Bale Mountain Lodge has been selected for its stunning views and its access to the plateau and forest. The lodge showcases the best of Ethiopian fauna and flora whilst providing access to a variety of attractions further afield.
The main lodge has a cosy atmoshpere with two large fireplaces and wonderful views and a waterfall fed rock pool is ideal on hot days. The 11 rooms are spacious and offer private decks, comfy beds and wood burning stoves. Four rooms are tree houses set around the base of large forest trees, three rooms which are near the main lodge are well suited to families and also suitable for wheelchair
users and the other four rooms, which are all unique are made of stone and wood. Each rooms has private views and the lodge is 100% eco friendly. There is also a spa which offers a variety of treatments, plus a hot tub.
The resident naturalist will co-ordinate all of the activities within the National Park, activities which include guided bird watching trips, fly fishing, game viewing, walking and interaction with conservation and research teams which are operating in and around the lodge. Also on offer are trips to Sof Omar, the largest limestone cave system in Africa, and to Dolo Mena and the Rift Valley, possibly stopping off at a camel market or for some delicious Ethiopian coffee.
Comprising of the Tullu Demtu, Mount Batu and the Weyib River, the Bale Mountains are awash with nature. Bale Mountains National Park is one of the best places to discover the Mountain’s wildlife, covering 2,200 square kilometres of the Ethiopian Highlands.
The National Park is home to many animals such as lion, leopard, antelope, and the Ethiopian Wolf. The Harenna Forest (located south of the mountains) is thought to inhabit many undiscovered species of wildlife, due to it being largely unexplored. The park offers many trekking opportunities for those wanting to explore.
The opportunity to observe animals and birdlife are common here, making it a popular attraction amongst visitors.
