Almanara is an exclusive, family owned and run luxury boutique 5 bedroom hotel and 6 three-bedroom private villas offering, located south of Mombasa, Kenya on the East Coast of Africa. Perfect for families and couples, the retreat sits on a quiet stretch of the magnificent Diani Beach, between the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean and the Shimba Hills National Reserve. Stretching 25 kilometres along the coastline, bright white sands and lush green forests provide a calming backdrop and a picturesque paradise setting.

Lush gardens of palms and bougainvillea paired with careful placement of Almanara’s six villas and five bedroom boutique hotel, means guests have the privacy to enjoy their holiday in a relaxed, peaceful and welcoming setting. All inclusive, a dedicated team of staff for each booking ensures a holiday suited to each guest’s pace and desires.

Almanara is the perfect place to experience the relaxing, boutique retreat life of the East African coast and to explore the incredible surrounding landscapes.

Set up by the Giovando family originally as a holiday home for their large family, Almanara retains a strong sense of family and ‘home away

from home’ feel throughout. Leo (son of Almanara’s founder, Nico Giovando) and his wife Gemma oversee Almanara today. They support the local community through employment and sponsoring of local schools and orphanages, and ensure that the hotels’ and villa practices are eco-friendly to preserve the natural surrounding landscape.

Sails Beach Bar and Restaurant is located on the beach front within Almanara, and the architecture of sweeping sails and curved beams compliments the outdoor dining experience.

Executive chef – Anthony Huth and his team prepare a new menu each week using only the freshest ingredients. Seafood is delivered daily by the local fishermen, allowing guests to sample the best that the Indian Ocean has to offer.

Cloud Nine is Almanara’s very own Health & Beauty Spa offering guests a variety of treatments. Almanara has a wide selection of activities available from Stand Up Paddle Boarding, to windsurfing, snorkelling to boogie boarding. For more complex courses these can be arranged with an external operator who will come to you at Almanara. These include kitesurfing, diving and sailing courses.

The white sandy beaches of Kenya's beautiful coastline are fringed with palm trees and offer sacred forests, unspoilt bays, exotic coral reefs and stunning white sandy beaches, which all provide an idyllic tropical paradise.

Along the Kenyan Coast, you can explore the ancient heritage of Lamu, go stand-up paddle boarding in the crystal clear waters, watch dolphins swimming along or scuba dive and snorkel amongst colourful coral reefs.

Kenya's coastal region is generally humid and hot all year round. This ever present humidity means that the rainy season never truly leaves the coast. October to January is widely considered the best time to visit Kenya's beaches as these months offer the best conditions for diving and snorkelling. On the other hand, May is to be avoided as it is the rainiest month. The opportunity to dive with whale sharks is best exploited between October and April.
