Meda Gedara is a haven of calm sophistication, beautifully decorated with original artworks, stunning elaborate tiles and antique furniture. A vast sweeping staircase welcomes guests into a bright, spacious living area with large, exquisitely adorned windows flooding the space with light. The villa has breathtaking views down through the tropical, landscaped gardens and over the split level pools to the turquoise ocean beyond.
Meda Gedara offers versatile accommodation and can be taken as a five or seven bedroom property. It comprises of three master bedrooms, a king/twin, a nursery room and bunk room on the first floor, and a large garden suite with super-king size bed and en-suite.
The local manager speaks superb English and is also a chef extraordinaire. He runs a team of eight staff who look after the property, swimming pool and grounds providing, amongst other things, housekeeping and evening turn-down service.
Communal areas are uniquely designed with impeccable taste. An open plan living area with huge day-beds, modern kitchen and a large dining area are perfect for gatherings and entertaining groups.
For some quiet relaxation, there is a snug cinema room and a separate childrens TV room for the little ones to enjoy their favourite shows.
To the outside there is a beautiful, tranquil veranda area that can seat up to 20 guests, numerous terraces, a Jacuzzi and a large swimming pool with waterslide and separate splash pool. A gentle stroll through the garden will lead you to the beach front and the luscious blue sea.
The southern stretch of coast between Matara and Hambantota as you head east from Galle towards Yala National Park and the East Coast is home to far fewer hotels than the southwest coast and thus feels fare more off the beaten track.
Tangalle itself is a fishing village and is a hive of activity for the locals but you won't find any infrastructure for foreign visitors here. Any hotels and villas are subtlely hidden away down narrow access tracks on the beach side or overlooking rice paddies in the countryside. This is laid-back living. It really is impossible not to relax here. There are a few activities on offer; explore on bicycles, go surfing, visit a temple (a blessing may be possible) or watch turtles laying eggs at night on the beach.
However, mostly you will find yourself enjoying the freshest, most delicious cuisine including plenty of fish and seafood if you should so desire and soaking up the sounds of the waves lapping the shore or the melodic birdsong from the trees.
