Onguma Nature Reserve consists of 34,000 hectares of magnificent Namibian wilderness, overlooking the world famous Etosha National Park. Onguma The Fort is unlike any other, the only one of its kind in Namibia, overlooking the beautiful Etosha Fisher’s Pan the accommodation consists of eleven Bush Suites, one Honeymoon Suite as well as a Sultan Suite.
The Bush and Honeymoon Suites are equipped with fire places for the winter months and air coolers for the summer months. Each Bush and Honeymoon Suite has an indoor and outdoor shower and wonderful views that look out over Etosha Pan. With dramatic Moroccan details, there is something new to discover around every corner.
The Fort is built in exactly the right spot to give guests probably one of the best sunset views in the whole of Namibia - overlooking the beautiful scarceness of the Etosha Pans, decorated only with its wild animals and hundreds of Camel Thorn trees.
The nature reserve boasts over 30 different animal species consisting of plains game including kudu, giraffe, eland, oryx, hartebeest, zebra, impala and many more roam freely.
You will also find predators such as lion, cheetah and leopard, being common residents of the area. The latest addition to the already abundant wildlife at Onguma Nature Reserve is a family of black rhinos.
More than 300 bird species can also be viewed at the reserve. During the Namibian summer months Onguma becomes a bird-watcher’s paradise with thousands of species migrating to the wetlands created by the seasonal rains and ephemeral river systems.
Onguma offers a variety of game activities both in the Etosha National Park and in Onguma Nature Reserve. They include photographic hide, guided interpretive walks, sunset drives in the Onguma Reserve and Etosha guided safaris.
Located in the Kunene region of Namibia, Etosha National Park is famed for its enormous salt pan so large it can be seen from space! The hypersaline conditions of the pan limit the species that can permanently inhabit the pan itself, but during summer it fills with water which attracts pelicans and flamingos, making it both geologically stunning and wildlife rich.
The saline desert of the park is home to various grazers such as blue wildebeest and springbok, as well as other exciting animals such as giraffe, zebra and an abundance of birds. Perhaps the most exciting of the parks features of the fact that it contains four of the big five – the African elephant, both black and white rhinoceros, lions and leopards, making it a true African paradise.
The dolomite hills on the southern border are called Ondundozonananandana, meaning “place where young boy herding cattle went to never return”, presumably referencing the large number of predators, giving the mountains its English name of Leopard Hills. But don’t worry, fantastic guided tours will ensure both your safety and your enjoyment on this incredible experience.
