Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge is perched high on Nteko Ridge (2,100m above sea level) overlooking the distant peaks of the mighty Virungas on one side and the forest-clad slopes of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on the other.
It is one of only two lodges this side of Bwindi, and as such offers a degree of exclusivity, away from the crowds. It is situated in the heart of the Nkuringo community, so not only provides the perfect base from which to go Mountain Gorilla trekking, but also to experience the rich and vibrant culture of the local communities.
The construction of the lodge has been done sensitively, using local materials with a sense of style. There are seven Garden Cottages (suitable
for two people) and four, two bedroom Villas suitable for families of four or five people or people who just want more space.
The lodge owners have worked carefully with the local community to ensure the authenticity of the cultural experiences offered at the lodge, support local producer groups and manage local resources sensibly. Additionally, they are involved in the operation of some exciting walking safari routes in Bwindi and around the Kigezi Highlands area.
Their environmental credentials are second to none, as they are the first (and to date only) lodge in Uganda to attain carbon neutral status, which is a superb achievement for a lodge in such a remote location.

Region
Situated in south-western Uganda, the park is part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - one of Africa’s most ancient habitats, surviving the last Ice Age as most of the continent's other forests disappeared.
The broad altitude span and its antiquity has produced an incredible diversity of flora and fauna; it provides habitat for 120 species of mammals, 348 species of birds, 220 species of butterflies, 27 species of frogs, chameleons, geckos, and, perhaps more importantly, a number of endangered species. In particular, the park is a sanctuary for colobus monkeys, chimpanzees and around 400 Bwindi gorillas, half of the world's population of these critically endangered mountain gorillas.
Floristically, the park is among the most diverse forests in East Africa, with more than 1,000 flowering plant species gloriously scattered over some 128 square miles of undulating landscape. This swath of steep mountains covered in thick, steamy jungle and rugged valleys is just as magnificent as it sounds.
It is undeniable that Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a remarkable place.
