Mpala Jena (which means white impala) is located in a private concession within Zambezi National Park overlooking a beautiful stretch of the Zambezi River, in the shade of various indigenous trees. It is 16 km inside the National Park, which is great for access to the town of Victoria Falls, but is situated in a quiet location in the wild habitat of the park.
The camp’s four guest tents and one suite are under flowing canvas, with open (yet netted) views of the river and Moroccan influences throughout the decor. Mpala Jena Camp can take a maximum of eight guests sharing in four tented rooms and Mpala Jenna Suite can cater for a maximum of four adults and one child sharing, in two separate bedrooms. Children from six years are welcome.
Each tent has a small sitting area with a desk, and en-suite bathroom facilities which include a lovely bathtub, indoor shower, double basins and separate toilet.
In front of the tent there is decking which leads to a private plunge pool with views of the Zambezi River.
Activities available are early morning and late afternoon game viewing in a private open 4×4 vehicle, guided walks, one return road transfer to Victoria Falls town, one entrance ticket to see the Victoria Falls per guest’s stay on a self guided basis and boat-based activities on the Zambezi River water (levels permitting).
Victoria Falls presents a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River, forming the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It was described by the Kololo tribe living in the area in the 1800’s as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – ‘The Smoke that Thunders’. In more modern terms Victoria Falls is known as the greatest curtain of falling water in the world.
Columns of spray can be seen from miles away as, at the height of the rainy season, more than five hundred million cubic meters of water per minute plummet over the edge, over a width of nearly two kilometres, into a gorge over one hundred meters below.
One special vantage point is across the Knife-edge Bridge, where visitors can have the finest view of the Eastern Cataract and the Main Falls as well as the Boiling Pot, where the river turns and heads down the Batoka Gorge. Other vantage points include the Falls Bridge, Devils Pool and the Lookout Tree, both of which command panoramic views across the Main Falls.
Victoria Falls is the adrenalin capital of the world, with many activities to choose from.
