Mihingo Lodge is a peaceful and luxurious retreat adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park.  Situated on privately owned land, it features twelve rooms which are built on wooden platforms and stilts, covered by a thatched roof. Suspended under the thatched roof is a spacious and comfortable tent with en-suite bathrooms, including hot and cold running water, showers, and flush toilets.

Each luxury tented room is nestled on a private piece of the lodge’s property, enabling guests to enjoy the tranquil environment in complete seclusion.  Placed in varied settings, some rooms are situated in a forest setting, some with a lake view and some on rocky outcrops. All rooms have a great view.

The main dining area is a large thatched structure built from rocks, the wood of dead olive trees found on the land and native grasses. Below the dining area an infinity swimming pool stretches out from the rocks and seems to disappear into the vast landscape beyond. From the dining and pool area, guests can enjoy the view of a westward oriented valley and its stunning evening sunsets over Lake Mburo National Park.

Lake Mburo is home to many different animal species, including Rothschild’s giraffe zebra, eland, and impala, who are not found in most other National Parks in Uganda.

Animals gathering in the valley will provide guests with fantastic game viewing opportunities or a chance to relax and watch wildlife at the water hole below the pool.

Apart from lounging by the pool, watching the nearby wildlife or having a full body massage, guests can enjoy the numerous activities offered by Mihingo Lodge and Lake Mburo National Park. The Park offers boat trips on Lake Mburo and savanna walks either near Lake Mburo or around Mihingo Lodge.

There are various options for game drives in Lake Mburo National Park with some stunning views from Kazuma Look-out point. Guests can also go for a short walk to the hide near the water hole or visit a traditional Bahima farm. One of the most exhilarating experiences is a horse ride, the best way to see wildlife.

Region

Lake Mburo National Park contains an extensive area of wetland and also has several species of mammals and birds found nowhere else in Uganda. Its sculptured landscape, with idyllic lake shores and rolling hills has varied habitats; grassy valleys, forest galleries, seasonal and permanent swamps and rich acacia-woodland which all support a wealth of wildlife.

At 370 sq km, Lake Mburo National Park is home to an astonishing diversity of animals and plants. It is the only park in Uganda with impala, eland and klipspringer. It is also home to the largest population of zebra in Uganda and probably contains the highest concentration of leopard found in Uganda. Buffalo, topi, waterbuck and warthog are also common. Oribi and Reedbuck can be spotted in the open valleys, whilst genet, hyena, bush pigs and white-tailed mongoose are frequently seen on night game drives.

In the middle of the Park is Lake Mburo, which together with 14 other lakes in the area, forms part of the wetland system.  Almost a fifth of the Park's area consists of wetlands - both seasonally flooded and permanent swamps. The swamps are home to a wide variety of wetland birds, as well as the shy, rare sitatunga antelope. Taking a boat out to experience the lake's moods and watch the numerous hippos, some crocs and an incredible amount of African fisheagles is a wonderful experience.
