King Lewanika Lodge is situated with sweeping vistas over seasonally flooded grasslands, dotted with tree islands, pans and rivers. One of Africa’s oldest conservation areas, this is a remote landscape with vast flat plains, wide-open spaces and spectacular skies.
Off the beaten track and rarely visited, it offers a deep sense of peace and tranquillity and is ideally suited for second-timers or those looking for a different safari experience.
Liuwa is the only park where villages are found within the borders - having retained utilisation rights - and people and animals co-habit successfully.
Designed by acclaimed lodge architects the property comprises of six luxury villas, including a two-bedroom family villa and is actually the only permanent camp in the national park.
Wildlife is excellent with a massive wildebeest migration and unique animal behaviours - hyenas hunting in clans of up to 50 strong.
Birdlife is excellent year-round and huge flocks of crowned cranes, saddle-billed storks and endangered wattle cranes may be seen. Seasonal mokoro excursions (water levels depending) and game drives are conducted in search of the wild inhabitants.
In the far West of Zambia, the Liuwa Plains National Park is rather remote. Its 3,600km of untouched African wilderness makes it rather appealing to those wanting to really get away and experience something totally different.
In the dry months, the dry grassy plains of the park are home to hyenas, lions, cheetahs, wild dogs and even pythons. When the rains come however, the scenery changes, and an influx of thousands of wildebeest and some zebra migrate here. With blooming flowers, huge array of birdlife and many newly born wildebeest apparent only a few months later, this incredibly beautiful and diverse park is perfect for those wanting a more secluded experience, yet still full with some of Africa's finest and purest offerings.
