Standing on the banks of the Chongwe River, a quiet tributary of the Zambezi that borders the Lower Zambezi National Park, is a spectacular and unique private home, Chongwe River House.

Pushing the boundaries of bush architecture, Chongwe River House offers sensational views of the dramatic mountainous escarpment of the Lower Zambezi National Park and the foreground, the magnetic river frontage.

Sleeping eight guests in four individually decorated spacious en-suite bedrooms, Chongwe River House is the ideal safari base for a family or group of friends wanting a private safari. The thatched house has been built around a frame of wild wood following the natural line of the branches, bringing nature into the house. The bathrooms have waterfall showers and exquisitely carved basins, and from your outside bath you can

gaze out across the bush. Beds are king size under waves of netting and from each bed a stunning open-view of the bush or escarpment. Furniture in the living room has been carved from a single fallen winterthorn tree and coloured pebbles from the river decorate the ceilings. The deck and swimming pool, with plenty of comfortable seating and lounging areas lie under a huge winterthorn tree and seem to merge with the river.

A totally private house serviced by its own team that includes a guide and vehicle, the timings of the day from wake up to meal times and safari, are totally flexible. Guests can choose to spend the day chilling on the deck where they might spot some wildlife including elephant, making use of the river front; canoeing, bird watching or fishing along the islands, enjoying guided game drives and walking safaris.
