Privately nestled amongst the rolling green vineyards, and an hour’s drive from the beautiful Bordeaux sits Chateau Beille. First erected in the 1500’s as the river customs house, and later rebuilt for the same purpose in the 1700’s, its prime riverside location, directly on the bend of the Dordogne River, gives stunning views towards St Foy and St Emilion.

Chateau Beille is located on the edge of Pessac sur Dordogne and is in the region of Juillac, Acquitaine. The chateau sits on the banks of the Dordogne River with Castillon & St Foy le Grande just 10 minutes away by car. Bergerac & St Emillion are less than 40 minutes and Bordeaux is just an hour’s drive. A convenience store and butchers are located in Pessac which is a 5 minute walk and Gensac (5 minutes by car) has a Spar supermarket and boulangerie. A larger supermarket is within a 10-minute drive. Gensac offers a pub/restaurant and a further bar/restaurant. There is also a further fine dining restaurant in Pessac.

The impressive Chateau has eight, grand and elegant double bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Rustic, yet light and airy, six of these bedrooms are on the first floor, and two are on the ground floor for disabled access.

The views from each of the bedrooms over the Dordogne River and over four hectares of private land, are truly stunning.

Impressively sized reception rooms host original stone walls, exposed beams and romantic stone and marble fireplaces throughout. A snooker room, library and grand dining room, lead in to a vast open plan kitchen and living area. The open log fire and tiled parquet floors create a cosy and social ambience, perfect for entertaining.

Outside there is an abundance of social experiences to be had, whether it be cooking up culinary delights on the two barbeques and outdoor kitchen, enjoying a glass of wine in the outdoor dining areas, or enjoying the peace and tranquillity of Chateau Beille whilst the children make use of the sunken trampoline and climbing frame, this idyllic Chateau could not be more opulent.

The barn can cater for up to two hundred and fifty guests, and with the beautiful surroundings and private tree lined driveway, Chateau Beille is the perfect wedding venue.

Region

Located in the scenic region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine in sunny south-western France is the incredible department of the Dordogne. Taking its name from the river that runs through it, the Dordogne is known to the French as the Perigord, and is divided into four colour-coded areas due to the spectacular landscape each region possesses. Périgord Pourpre, for the many vibrant vineyards around Bergerac; Périgord Noir for the dark oak forests around the Vézère Valley; Périgord Blanc after the rolling limestone hills around the capital, Périgueux; and Périgord Vert for the lush, forested regions of the north.

With more than 1,500 castles, the Dordogne has rightfully been named “The Other Chateaux Country”, in comparison with the Loire region. Each landmark fortress highlights the areas strategic importance through the ages, and offers artefacts from the medieval era. Many castles also offer activities such as wine tasting, with some boasting immaculate gardens such as the Jardins Suspendus at the Château de Marqueyssac. History is further seen throughout the Dordogne as there are many fascinating caves displaying prehistoric art, such as the Grotte de Font de Gaume, an extraordinary cavern containing the only original polychrome paintings still open to the public.

Charming towns such as Bergerac and picturesque fortified villages such as Eymet host weekly markets where merchants sell their various French delicacies. Stock up for a picnic in the surrounding vineyards with organic tomatoes, saucisson packed with hazelnuts and fragrant strawberries.

Boasting traditional French gastronomy, incredible wines and a bucolic landscape of chateaux-studded hills and colourful vineyards, the Dordogne is a superb display of France at its finest.
