Camp Hwange is located on a large open plain in Hwange National Park, the eco-friendly camp blending into the natural environs.
Stylishly simplistic and comfortable, eight airy thatch and canvas chalets look out over a waterhole, allowing guests to make the most of the uninterrupted vistas.
An open-sided, open-plan lounge and dining area extend out to the camp fire where guests may settle with a cup of coffee before game activities,
or enjoy the star-studded night skies in the evenings.
Although he is not always in the camp, Camp Hwange is home-base to walking guide extraordinaire, Dave Carson.
His superb team of guides makes this a much sought after walking destination, in addition to offering open vehicle game drives through scenically beautiful landscape.
Bordering Botswana, Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s largest game park with an area of 14,600km² and is only a two hour drive or a 40 minute flight from Victoria Falls. Its sheer size means that its scenery, vegetation and game vary massively, ranging from the semi desert scrub on the edge of the Kalahari in the south, to forests, granite hills and valleys of mopane woodlands in the north.
The national park is home to over 400 bird species and 100 mammal species, including lion, leopard, cheetah and rhino, and is known for its large population of elephant. The highest numbers of animals are spotted in the dry season when the wildlife congregates around the shrunken water holes.
