Bahia Vik is the third property in the Uruguayan Vik portfolio opened in 2015. The same concept exists of bold art adorning the walls and statement installations both in the shared spaces and suites. Every suite is unique, minimalist to be immersed in the artwork complemented by views of the ocean.
Bahia Vik is the largest in the portfolio and particularly suited to families and groups of friends that wish to be grouped together in privacy away from the main hotel and social area. Similar to the Playa hotel, Bahia is yards away from the beach with the multi-unit suites tucked into the sandunes. Again, the emphasis being one of an outside beach chic lifestyle with lazy mornings following late nights enjoying the villages' beach bars and restaurants including the very popular La Susanna restaurant which is on site.
There are 37 suites which are spread between the main building and the adjoining 10 acres of land back from the beach in the sandunes. The multi unit suites are called bungalows which is misleading as they are just individual suites which are adjacent to each other. They do not have a common lounge area or kitchen/dining. Rooms are minimalist and all individually designed with bold works of art and quirky modernist pieces accompanied by shabby chic reclaimed vintage furniture
There are four communal swimming pools, beach club, games room and small boutique.
La Susanna, Bahia Vik's restaurant, is a Jose Ignacio favourite but many others are a short walk away and the glitz of Punta del Esta is a 20 minute drive.
The Uruguayan Atlantic coast at Christmas has been likened to the Hamptons. A beach haven for 'movers and shakers', New York bankers, slick entrepreneurs and Argentine high society.
The high rise beach strip of Punte del Este hosts the glitziest parties and the laid back village Jose Ignacio is a bare foot, sandy, understated, village coastal retreat where the world's top international chefs ply their trade at private villas and exclusive beach side restauants.
There are slick beachside independent boutique hotels owned as a hobby by billionnaires and a range of villas to rent.
Out of season is a far more laid back experience on the coast. Exploration is best with your own hire car to discover wonderful restaurants in the rural interior and venture to the Brazilian border passing wild beaches, abandoned colonial fortresses and temperate palm forests.
