Awasi Atacama

Atacama Desert, Chile

  • From €947/night
  • Lodge
  • 10 Room/s

Awasi Atacama was the first lodge to open from the Awasi property portfolio.

It was the first lodge to offer exclusive guiding in 4x4 vehicles in the Atacama and sets the bar for personalised explorations of the desert including active and extreme trekking.

The oasis village of San Pedro is reached via a fast road (1 hour 40 minutes) from the nearest airport at Calama, Chile, or across the border from Salta in Argentina and also the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia.

There are 7 round casitas in the main lodge and 3 rectangular suites across a narrow lane. The atmosphere is quiet and sophisticated being a

perfect environment to rest after a long day exploring the spectacular Atacama desert.

Each casita has a private outside patio with furniture allowing for stargazing at any time of night. Breakfast can also be arranged in your casita.

The main lodge is more sociable (but equally private, if you desire) to relax by the fire pits or enjoy a cool swim in the pool. Massage can also be arranged.

The restaurant and bar, exclusively for guests, is romantic and cosy in the evenings, menus change daily and fuse local ingrediants with a European flair and exquisite Chilean wines.

Region

In the far north of Chile, but only a two hour flight from Santiago, lies the driest desert in the world - the Atacama. The Atacama is one of the world's most accessible deserts and has a clutch of superb lodges to relax at after a day of exploring and adventuring.

The desert oasis village San Pedro de Atacama is just under a two hour drive from the regional airport at Calama. From here spend your days travelling with a private guide and 4x4 setting off before sunrise to experience the vivid colours of turquoise sulphur lakes with flamingos at dawn, watch exploding geysers and soak in thermal pools. Enjoy a gourmet picnic with views to mesmerising volcanoes and finish your day atop a sand dune watching the sunset.

The Atacama is a heaven for photographers, astronomers and adventureres but also for those that simply want to get the most out of a personalised, unrushed desert experience staying at exquisite lodges with exceptional service.

The Atacama Desert is lovely to visit all year round with dry, mostly sunny days reaching high daytime temperatures. Expect cooler temperatures at higher altitudes and after dark when temperatures drop considerably revealing clear skies and spectacular star gazing.
The winter months (June-September) can see temperatures plummet at dusk with chilly mornings too. It's always wise to carry a fleece if out close to sunset and have plenty of sunscreen during the day.
