Costa Rica

Costa Rica can seemingly do no wrong! Becoming ever more popular as a safe and soft adventure, wildlife and beach paradise.

South western Costa Rica is the untouched pristine corner of the country, and is home to the original ‘eco lodges’ perched high overlooking the Pacific Ocean whilst surrounded by virgin rainforest. Here you will wake up with squirrel and spider monkeys, be dazzled by passing scarlet macaws and step silently across the forest floor on a night walk in search for nocturnal creatures.

Head inland for lost world lodges that are only accessible by raft or rugged 4x4 and enjoy the Arenal volcano rising monolithically from the flat Badlands. Laze in natural volcanic hot springs after zip wiring through the rainforest canopy.

On the northern Pacific side, you will find the slick and stylish branded hotel resorts, whilst further south are the laid back bohemian surf villages with organic juice shacks, Yoga studios and meditation classes. Either buzz around the country by small regional aircraft, self-drive or hire a private guide and vehicle.

  • Watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean

Costa Rica has the perfect property match for all tastes to watch the sun rise over the Pacific Ocean. Choose from cliff top cabañas, exclusive luxury resorts, stunning villas and chic bohemian retreats or combine them all to experience all that Costa Rica offers when enjoying the ocean.

Costa Rica has world class surf, gentle sheltered bays perfect for kayaking, canoeing, supping and snorkelling. Wildlife havens welcome returning turtles to lay their eggs. Majestic Humpback whales migrate in December and January and dolphins are perennially at play.

The coast is easily accessible via regional flight routes & excellent transfer vehicles & drivers. Self drive is also a fun way to explore much of the country. We will provide 24 hour assistance.

  • Spot a Quetzal in Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve

The Monteverde Reserve consists of 6 ecological zones, 90% of which are virgin forest. A visit to Monteverde feels like a primeval planetary immersion. Incredibly bio diverse with over 2,500 plant species (including the most orchid species in a single place), 100 species of mammals, 400 bird species, 120 reptilian and amphibian species, and thousands of insects.

For some, this is the prime reason for visiting Costa Rica. It is relatively easy to access an incredible concentration of plant and animal species. For wildlife enthusiasts Monteverde is a must and is well worth the rough and windy road to the forest and lodges in the clouds. And if you're lucky you may spot the Resplendent Quetzal...

  • Marvel at Arenal Volcano

Arenal soars impressively and majestically in the centre of Costa Rica. The volcano is the centre piece of Costa Rica’s soft adventure playground.

The region has an activity for all interests and abilities. There are challenging hikes traversing the volcano to relaxing in natural thermal hot springs. Take your time viewing the rainforest canopy from hanging bridges or zip line above the jungle at incredible speed. Ride through the Badlands, traversing rivers and cantering through open pastures.

Take a boat trip into the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, considered to be one of the region’s richest spots for bird watching.

  • Live the Pura Vida!

Pura Vida translates into The Pure Life or The Simple Life. It has become the country’s motto and is reflected in all aspects of service from drivers to pilots, housekeeping staff to guides. The charm is natural, quite exceptional and infectious!

The simplicity aspect is reflected in the respect for nature and the environment. There is a real sense that Tico’s (Costa Rican natives) are the proud protectors.  A visit to Costa Rica gives one the chance for immersion in a simple lifestyle, living by nature’s rhythms.

Pura Vida is reflected in simple farm to table cuisine, a leave only footprints concept of tourism, careful & respectful use of resources, strong ethical sustainability & unfussy, friendly & informal service.

  • Raft on pristine white water rapids

One of the most stunning, hidden lodges deep in the cloud forest can only be reached by white water raft or an extremely rugged and vertiginous journey by sturdy 4 wheel drive!

A visit to Pacuare Lodge is a must for adrenaline seekers or for those simply with a slight appetite for adventure with the privileged opportunity of being on a river through pristine wilderness. After a rigorous safety briefing, expert and professional rafting guides navigate the rapids, ending at the most beautiful riverside lodge.

Spend two nights dining by candlelight, discovering hidden waterfalls, falling to sleep with the accompaniment of the rushing river and nocturnal evening chorus. Wake early to take a morning guided birding walk and watch the humming birds at breakfast.

Costa Rica is an all year round destination except for September and October when it is the height of the wet season and can be prone to the fringes of the hurricane belt. The rest of the year is divided into the dry season (November to March) and the Green season from April to August.
Temperatures are constantly pleasant all year round being tropical to hot, especially in the north in the dry zone which receives far less rainfall even in the Green season. Expect sunny, dry heat and high temperatures in the north which is lovely on the coast.
Temperatures will cool in the elevated highlands with afternoon rain showers in the rain and cloud forest in the afternoons. The rain, of course, keeps Costa Rica beautifully green, vibrant and full of wildlife.
